1. What is a Domain name?
A domain name is the internet address or web address. This is your identity online. Once you register a domain, no one else will have such a domain name worldwide. Its unique. A domain is usually a name ending with predefined suffixes like .com .org .net etc. There are various forms of domain. We have international domains like .com or .org and country-based domains like .co.ke or .or.ke etc
2. Why is a domain important?
Any internet application runs on a domain. If you own a domain, any application build on the domain will be deemed yours and you have control over it. The most common applications you can build are emails, websites, blogs, forums, accounting and billing systems, online sales systems, ecommerce portals, guestbooks, sales catalogs, ordering systems, donation systems, management systems, email lists, feedback systems, intranets and the list is endless. Once you have a domain, you just need to build these applications on it.
3. Selecting a good domain?
A good domain is the one deemed to depict who you are. For example, if we are a hosting company in health care, Afya is the Swahili word for health. So Afyahost depicts hosting for healthcare. If you have an organization, the name of your organization becomes the domain. If you are an individual or professional, your name is the domain.
In selecting the suffix, its simple; if you are a business or enterprise, choose .com or .biz or .co.ke If you are an NGO, CBO, FBO or development project, choose .org or .net or .or.ke For schools, choose .ac.ke for secondary & tertiary schools and .sc.ke for primary schools.
4. What is Hosting?
Web hosting is also referred to as web space or web disk or server. Its measured in MB (megabytes). This is where all the files for your applications are stored. Hosting depends on size. To be cost effective, just buy what is enough for you. You can always add later when needed.
5. When do I design my applications?
Once you acquire domain and hosting, you can now set your applications. The basic and important ones are emails and website. Configure your emails as per your desire eg info@afyahost.com or sales@afyahost.com Then collect information to form the content of your website and engage a web designer to design for you.

6. Where do i start?
Start with a Starter Package. At Kshs 1999 per year, you get a STARTER package consisting of 1 domain, 2 emails, 10MB Web Host and 1-page web profile. These will offer you far much value for the time being. We can then evaluate your needs and see if you need upgrade. The solution is scalable if you need to add more applications; more emails, webpages and other applications.
7. What and when do I upgrade?
You upgrade when necessitated by growth. What you upgrade is hosting. You get a bigger hosting if you want to add more applications.
8. I already own a domain?
Many people ask. I already have a domain, am paying far too much, its always down. We say that you are not stuck there. Transfer to us. We will give you the real value. Together we will build applications to benefit you immensely.
9. How long does it take to get a domain?
It takes 2 hours to register a domain, configure email and design a 1-paged web profile. Ensure you send us domain name and your corporate profile.
